I'm so excited!

My composter is arriving today!
I bought one that I'll have to roll around the yard. I think it'll be interesting to do (and great exercise!)
Composting was one of the things on my list of 30 before 30.

I guess it's time to update you all on how that's going!!

26. Start to compost.
I'm going to start today!!

17. Write at least 6 handwritten letters to my Grandmother.
I've written one. I think I'm going to sit down and write another today!

14. Grow something edible and eat it.
On Monday this week T and I planted a whole bunch of seeds in peat pots. They're in a tray on my dresser. If T has her way we'll spend the summer eating green beans and zucchini.

10. Take a yoga class.
I took one at the local Y. I need to find one I enjoy more...

3. Read 6 NEW books. Not books I've previously read or part of a series.
The Lost Symbol, Deception Point, Digital Fortress, The Time Traveller's Wife, Steady Days ... only one more to go!

Pardon me while I finish this book

Remember a couple weeks ago I mentioned swap.com?
Well I've already completed 3 swaps.

I'm completely lost in another Dan Brown book - this time it's The Lost Symbol.
I've also got the Time Traveller's Wife and The Secret waiting for me.
PLUS the last book in a series I'm reading came out on Tuesday.

Last night I stayed up until 3am reading.
I forsee another late night tonight.

I'll be done my 6 books well before I turn 30. I'm almost tempted to make it 30 books before 30!!

Getting to it

So recently I posted my 30 before 30 to do list.
On there was:

3. Read 6 NEW books. Not books I've previously read or part of a series.

My Mom got really excited knowing that I'm planning to read 6 books this year. She jumped up and grabbed 4 books she thought I'd like. A couple years ago I'd introduced her to the Davinci Code. Apparently she loved it so much that Dan Brown is now one of her favorite authors. I read The Davinci Code and Angels and Demons and gave up on him. I felt like the two books had basically the same plot.
One of the books Mom handed me was Deception Point.
I finished it in less than 24 hours. (Maybe I should up my to do list to include more books!) I enjoy the intrigue of books like this. And I especially like it when the twist is not one I predict myself. (I thought the "controller" was a certain person and it turned out to be someone else entirely)

What books do you like? What would you recommend for me to read?

30 Before 30

Today is my champagne birthday. I turn 29 on the 29th. It's not a big milestone, but next year sure is.
Between that and the new year fast approaching I have been thinking about my "do before 30" list. It's a list I have going in my head but I've never articulated. Until now.
I want this list to be something to keep me accountable to my goals, however small they are. I want to be able to at this time next year look back on the year and not think "what have I done this year??" but instead think "Wow! look at all I've acheived!" In that vein I'm not going to put vague things like "eat out less" on the list. I want concrete things I can check off. Some are things I've done before, some are not.

30. Sew something for myself, that I wear, regularly.
29. Have a professional family portrait taken, of all four of us.
28. Learn to make cheese and actually make some.
27. Send out Christmas Cards. Don't address them and forget to mail them.
26. Start to compost.
25. Send out Thank You cards to people who deserve them.
24. Knit a pair of socks, for myself.
23. Make a family tree.
22. Paint the kitchen cabinets.
21. Learn how to change a tire.
20. Skate at the Rockefeller Center.
19. Visit Ellis Island.
18. Send an anonymous gift to someone.
17. Write at least 6 handwritten letters to my Grandmother.
16. Host a dinner, at my house, for my In-Laws.
15. Go for a ride in a horse drawn carriage.
14. Grow something edible and eat it.
13. Get drunk on Champagne.
12. Visit the Museum of Modern Art.
11. Make some art I'm proud enough of to display in our home.
10. Take a yoga class.
9. Make a will.
8. Have a burger at White Manna.
7. Go to a taping of the Colbert Report.
6. Eat at Babbo.
